xMII installation on Windows

Is there any preference between Windows 2000 v/s 2003 for xMII installation. Help says that xMII could be installed on either of these versions.

Please let me know your thoughts.

Srinivasan,

Considering the age of the two different operating systems the Microsoft support timeline for Windows 2000 Server is probably running short on time. Here is a peek at the support for different operating systems, which indicates that SP4+ is about the end of their major efforts to support 2000: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/lifecycle/servicepacks.mspx

Unless the customer has issues with 2003 I think that should be the only viable choice at this point. Also keep in mind that xMII version 12.0 runs on NetWeaver 2004s SP10 or higher, which means that the operating system and underlying database for WebAS and xMII can be a number of possible combinations.

Yes, there is a preference, and it is the customer's preference ;*)

If you are asking about recommendation, that's a different question.

Windows 2003 server adds a bunch of "functionality" around more security, which is can be a pain to get going.

Also, IIS 5 comes with W2K, where W2K3 uses IIS 6 which has some different features.
