Pro and Con of using XI vs RFC ?
Is it ideal to use XI instead of RFC to communicate between SAP <==> SAP systems
viz...
1) ECC6.0 ==> SRM 5.0
2) SRM ==> ECC 6.0
3) ECC6.0 ==> BI
4) SRM 5.0 ==> BI
Thanks
Pe
Hi Uni,
It depends on your your requirement(whether you can have more systems in future). But Definetly i would prefer SAP XI...because it would give greater flexibility in future. The monitoring system of SAP XI is great and in XI integration design and configuration is central.
Plz Reward points if you are satisfied with the answer and mark the problem solved.

Hi Vishal,
Thanks for your response.
Would you recommend integrating ECC6.0, SRM and BI with XI as the middleware ? or would you prefer RFC calls between these systems?
Thanks

Pe,
In the short term it might even make sense to have a point to point connectivity between your SAP systems but in the long run as more systems move in more connections would need to be made etc, things can become a nightmare.
The exact permise of using a EAI tool and reasons why EAI evolved need to be looked into here before this question can be answered. Depends purely on where the long term startergy of the organization is.
Also, XI comes in with PreDeleivered Integration Content that can provide a lot of benefits when doing a SAP to SAP Integration. You would need to consider all these factors and then decide on the best approach to go ahead with.

Hi Uni,
Two SAP systems can communicates through RFC but XI can be used for the integration of heterogeneous systems even SAP <-> SAP, Non-SAP <-> SAP, and Non-SAP <-> Non-SAP...Viz.
webservice<-->SAP
Database<-->SAP
FlatFiles<-->SAP
Third party<-->SAP
Third party<-->Database
Also it works on HUB and spoke while when you integrate two SAP systems through RFC it is point to point integration.
Hope this would clarify your doubt and reward points if it does.
