SAP XI vs RFC

Former Member

Is it ideal to use XI instead of RFC to communicate between SAP <==> SAP systems

viz...

1) ECC6.0 ==> SRM 5.0

2) SRM ==> ECC 6.0

3) ECC6.0 ==> BI

4) SRM 5.0 ==> BI

Thanks

Munavar

Hi,

XI is something more than an Integration Broker.

Well if you can fetch some data directly using RFCs, you do no need XI.

Use of XI is justified when

1) we need to integrate 2 different kind of systems.

2) when we want to route everything through xi for better monitoring

WAS6.2 onwards our SAP systems can communicate using XML messages as well.

If you plan to use XI you can go for proxies as well and they guarantee a better performance than RFCs in XI because of SOAP message transfer over http.

Hi Munavar,

It's purely depends upon the need..

for example :

if any processing required inbetween then we require XI.

if a RFC sending info and Idoc has to receive then for sake of compatible we go for XI..

ultimatly what we can conclude is ,if requirement is not demanding XI then NO need for going XI.

we can not judge this perticular statement with out requiremet study.

ramesh.
