Hi,

XI is about connection of 2 or more SAP/non SAP systems and enabling exchange of messages in an efficient manner.

For that , first

1. You specify the various systems in the SLD for XI to know the various systems in the landscape and the related information

2. Specify the message structure and/or logic(mapping) that needs to be transfered/ exchanged in the Integration Repository

3. Specify the "scenario specific" system and connection information in the ID for XI to communicate with the systems

4. Attach the messages and the logic (mapping) to the systems specified in the ID for the current scenario.

5. At runtime, the IS makes use of the info specified in the SLD, IR, and ID to realize the message exchange.

6. The Runtime Workbench allows you to monitor the messages
