Issues with relinking oracle during 10.2.0.1 installation

I have Question about HP UX patches required for installation of oracle 10.2.0.1 (we are installing first 10.2.0.1 and than patch it to 10.2.0.2). In oracle note 169706.1 we have required oracle patches for PA RISK 11.11 and Itanium 11.23. We have installed HP UX patch bundle 0607 on our servers (this patch bundle contains a lot of patches that I can send via mail - I do not know how to attach it to a thread).

Now, when we run RUNINSTALLER we receive warnings for patches that are not installed. On HP Itanium 11.23 warnings are for PHSS_33277, PHSS_33278 and PHSS_33279 and on HP PA-RISK 11.11 warnings are for PHSS_32508, PHSS_32509 or PHSS_32510 and PHSS_32731.

As per OSS note 1004290, patches PHSS_33277, PHSS_33278 and PHSS_33279 are not needed for Itanium 11.23 and patches PHSS_32508, PHSS_32509 or PHSS_32510 are not needed for PARISK 11.11, but I do not find reference to PHSS_32731 patch which is missing during installation on 11.11. Can I can safely perform Oracle installations for SAP on HP PA RISK 11.11 without PHSS_32731?

As well, During RUNINSTALLER run I receive screen that show that RUNINSTALLER has problem with re-linking some products, with error message like: “Unable to find make file /oracle/GDD/102_64/rdbms/lib/ins_rdbms.mk.”. I continue with installation and it finish with no problems, but it is quite anoying error message that I would like to get rid of. This might be related to some products that are getting installed and that are not needed in SAP environment (maybe some covered by OSS note 1004290). In RUNINSTALLER screen with "available product component" I have checked:

- Oracle database 10g 10.2.0.1.0

- Enerprise edition options 10.2.0.1.0

• Oracle advance security10.2.0.1.0

• Oracle partitioning10.2.0.1.0

- Oracle net services10.2.0.1.0

*Oracle net listener 10.2.0.1.0

- Oracle enterprise manager console10.2.0.1.0

- Oracle Call interface (OCI)10.2.0.1.0

- Oracle XML development kit 10.2.0.1.0

- iSQL Plus 10.2.0.1.0

(I have screenshot from installation with products that are installed in during 10.2.0.1 on 11.23 that I can send via mail).

Do you find something that we do not need in SAP environment, for example Oracle XML Development Kit, and that we can uncheck from list of product that will be installed in order to avoid problems with relinking?

when I look at note 921967, I see potential issue that I do not quite understand:

After installing patch the latest "ld(1) and linker tools cumulative patch" disp+work aborts with the error message above.

Solution

Upgrade to the lastest SAP kernel version.

Does it means that by installing patch PHSS_33033 I can cause issue which would require SAP kernel upgrade?

I installed the recommended patch bundles (or a higher version) and I did not apply any specific versions.

The problem in that note is related to a shared library not found. Neverless, it´s always recommended to use the latest kernel patchlevels.

I am using 2 OS versions.

- 11.11 on PA-RISK

- 11.23 on Itanium IA64

it´s not quite clear from your message, what you use.

You use 11.11 or 11.23 on PA-RISC or do you use 11.23 on IA64?
