I would like to see some reactions on the MDIS functionality. I am pretty dissatisfied with this functionality as it's simply not working as it should.
I wonder if there are others that got it to work at all..
So.. feel free to shoot.. Please mention the following
- What SP/Patch version are you using + Subject
- If MDIS is working or not
- additional comments
I'll start
- SP04 Patch 04 on Win32
- Material Repository - Using MATMAS idocs
- Not working - cannot deal properly with import of qualified tables - OSS note open for more then a month - after several discussion, a webex - now a customer action to upgrade to the latest patch level...
- SP05
- Vendor Repository - Using CREMDM idocs
- Not working - cannot deal with inserts nor updates - On inserts, the error is "All of some of your xxx VXR were not loaded" - on updates ( using the 'Update - All mapped fields' import action - upload fails with weird RC code. .
So.. several attempts never a sucess...
Dirk
- Not working
The issue solved in SP05 Patch 1 and it is working...

Hi!
Sharing my experiences in the platforms i have witnessed with my customers:
1. Windows 32 bit with MS SQL Server 2000 and ORACLE 10g
- MDIS performs satisfactorily with SP05 Patch 01 Hotfix 01 with XML and flat files types. Access and Excel file types do not allow MDIS to do streaming for parallel processing hence they would have the worst performance if memory is a limitation as MDIS would try to load the entire file on one go. I have seen files with 40,000 records getting uploaded in about 10 minutes even on my 2GB laptop. So it works if configured the way suggested in the guides.
2. SOLARIS with ORACLE 10g
- There were stability issues with SP04 patch 04 which were addressed in a SOLARIS specifc hotfix but there is more to be done with regards to performance and patch 02 for SP05 should fix that is the update.
3. AIX on ORACLE 10g
- Have setup the DEV environment this week and should be able to report on the performance soon on that platform.
Sizing specialists recommend that in case there is a requirement to import as well as edit MD in Data Manager simultaneously, it is best to keep the MDIS and MDS on separate machines or use a mutli-core CPU with sufficient memory so that neither the memory nor the CPU maxes out in a simultanous import + data modification processes.
Hope this helps.

We are using 5.5.41.70 and MDIS stills keep slowing down MDS so much, users have to stall their data manager sessions very frequently even if the ports are empty.... makes no sense.

We have opened a high priority ticket with Qualified records not being imported throught the Import Server and the response from SAP is as follows:
"Please initialize the Qualified tables before importing into the main table. This problem has been fixed in the upcoming release SP05 Patch 01"
Hope this helps.

Hi
We are implementing the Import Sever in our scenario. The performance for the Import Server in SP05 Patch 1 is not as good as Patch 0. It takes like an hour or so to import 197 records in Patch One and in Patch Zero it takes just 4 minutes. I send the documentation and my findings to SAP on the comaprison and this is their reply was
-
"According to our test the issue here is not related to performance but
to a specific problem in the map. Could you please try the following:
1) Open the Import Manager GUI with the source file you wish to import
2) Save the relevant map
3) Re-run the Import Server
In our tests with SP05 Patch 1 and the attached repository and file it
takes approx. one minute to complete the operation.
Best regards,"

"Unfortunatly I cannot point to the specific problem, and it could
take a while to verify what the specific issue is. I open an internal
message for this issue but I want it to be resolved for you
independantly."

My logic would be if the repository is the same then the map is the same. And that if in Patch 0 it is importing in fast, then Patch 1 should not change.
Dirk, this is also weird to me as well.
Nop, As far as SP04 is concern, Import server is not workinng properly for qualified table when I have thousands of records........
Some one who is successful in this can reply....
