query regarding fixed field lenfth files

Hello friends

I am having a flat file that needs to be converted to xml .I have doubt regarding keyfields, that is, while segregating the data into Header,Detail and trailer substructure Is it mandatory to have keyfields as first element in the input?

for eg : if my input file is like this ababababaHEADERxyxyxyxyxDetailxxxxxxTrailervvvvvvvv.........

where HHEADER Detail and Trailer are key fields

Can FCC can be used here or I need to resort to Adapter Modules.

Not needed. It can occur at any location.
