Hi Venkat,
eCATT is SAP's functional testing tool. Testing in terms of verifying configurations, master data etc. The tool is designed in such a way that no ABAP knowledge is as such need to use it. But the knowledge about the transactions which you want to verify via testing should be known very well.
The importance of eCATT is that it is FREE OF COST. It comes with WAS 6.20 & more. It serves the complete testing requirements in SAP. The DRAWBACK of the tool is that it can not server the web based transactions of SRM, CRM etc. For web based transactions, the tool to be used is Mercury QTP, which is a third party tool and very well integrated with eCATT.
The SDN forums for eCATT queries is SAP SOLUTION MANAGER, SAP GUI.
I have written series of 9 articles on eCATT. Find the following link for all the details -

Hope this helps you.
PS If the answer solves your query, plz close the thread by rewarding each reply & marking it Solved.

Hi,
eCATT stands for Extended Computer Aided testing Tool, which is useful to create reusable test cases for testing remote systems.
ECATT is automated testing tool developed by sap for functional testing.

Even you can remotely execute the scripts. Can integrate the test scripts with mercury QTP etc
By using eCATT we can do following operations,
· Test transactions, reports, and scenarios
· Call BAPIs and function modules
· Test remote systems
· Check authorizations (user profiles)
· Test updates (database, applications, GUI)
· Test the effect of changes to customizing settings
· Check system messages
To develop a test script in eCATT we need to follow the following steps,
1. Creating Test Scripts.
2. Creating Test Data Containers[16] .
3. Understanding System Data Containers[17] .
4. Executing Test Configurations.
Rewards Points if it helps.
