In the SAP help file is the following message "Make sure that you do not archive IDocs that may still be needed by the application". How is that determined? Are certain statuses not to be archived? I know that you can change the status to be able to be archived in WE47, but can you just go thru and set all statuses to archive, or only certain ones? What is the general rule to archive as many IDOCs as possible without removing IDOCs that are in use or still needed?
Thanks,
Mike
Hello Michael,
As ruchit said it depends on your business requirements, you can identify which statuses will be archived in your case by understanding business process.
As you must be knowing there are both technical and legal reasons for archiving application data based on which you can decide which statuses are to be archived. Some reasons for archiving are as follows.
. Resolves memory space and performance problems caused by large volumes of transaction data
· Ensures that data growth remains moderate so that the database remains manageable in the long term
· Ensures that companies can meet the legal requirements for data storage in a cost-efficient manner
· Ensures that data can be reused at a later date, for example, in new product development

Hello Michael,
This can be only determined by business requirements and not technically. Also idocs need to be put into archivable status before they can be archived.
However through WE47 you can yourself decide on the statuses which can be considered to be archivable. Then once you have taken a decision on which idocs need to be archived you can put them in archivable status and then later archive-delete them.
