when we require functional specification?
Hi ,
Functional Spec is required if the client business process will not suitable to the SAP standard business process then the function and technical people will discuss to suit that into SAP .
Then the functional consultant identify the reqired data to map that into SAP then they transfered that mail to technical people.
They make some coding and programs and then transfers that mail to functional people.
Rewards the points if it usefull

Hi,
There are 4 kind of documents available generally.
A) Functional Specification
B) Technical Specification
C) Code Review Document
D) Component Specification
These all documents will be created when you go for a
1) Expansion
2) Enhancement
3) New object
or Generally say
Whenever Standard SAP does not support the client new requirements, as a consultants we will analyse and provide the solution to Map the same within SAP.
So this new thing need to be documented for future reference.
So as a first Job, Functional consutlant will understand the requirement and prepare the Functional specifications.
(Note: - Generally this same like winword file contains history of the problem with diagram and solutions with flow chart. Table and field names will not available)
Then by understanding this Abap'er develop a coding and tesing then they prepare
Technical spec. Here the object name, tables and fields will be listed.
Finally code review will be done by senior Abap'er and sign off.
Component spec will be used only for some cases.
Hope i given some basic idea.. reward if your requirement fulfilled..

Hi Gopal,
If a Functional Consultant needs to get a perticuler report based on the client requirements. Then he has to get this done with the help of a Technical Consultant (ABAPer).
So to give the Technical Consultant
1. What is to be prepared (objects).
2. What is the requirement
3. What is the logic
4. Related Tables & Fields
5. Any other information which is required by the ABAPer to develop the perticuler report.
So Functional specs is a document prepared by functional Consultant to provide to Abaper all the above information.
The format of these spec will be differ from company to company based on the documentation pattern.
The terminalogy of this document will be in such a way that the ABAPer can understand easily. This will be purely in Technical Language.
