Problem with book/dvd "Java Prog. w/t SAP Web AS" | Can't access SLD

Former Member

Hello,

I'm working my way through the "Java Programming with the SAP Web Application Server" book, and just installed the contents from the accompanying CD (DVD?); the trial versions of the Web AS, NWDS, JDI, etc.

The installation instructions say that if I want to use the JDI from the NWDS, I have to configure the SDM, which should be done through the SLD, apparently.

The actual problem is that I can't get into the SLD (http://localhost:50000/sld/); I need to enter a username and a password, but none of the accounts I entered during the installation seem to work; I've used the same password for all the accounts, so all I should need is the correct username. I've tried "Administrator", "admin", "j2ee_admin", "j2eadm" and the username with which I log on to Windows XP.

Hi,

1.Is the engine up n running?

2.You should not enter the wrong password more than three times. It will get locked.

3.IF it says ,"user authentication failed",that means ,ur administrator is locked. You can unlock it through sap* user.

4.Go to visual admin,SID--->services--->SLD Data supplier.

<b>enter localhost adress,

http port and details of

username:administrator

and password:password of administrator</b>

5.do these settings in <b>http settings tab</b> section and also ingene<b><b> CIM client</b></b> ration settings tab.save whenever you enter any parameter.

and check CIM client generation settings.it should be successfull.

then trigger,SLD data transfer,at top left corner. It also should be successfull.

6.now go and check SLD url page.

any questions revert back.

reward points if helpful..............

Yes, my system is called "nw", and both "nw 0" and "nw 1" servers are running (green in the SAP Mgmt Console).

Great, now they tell me

> 3.IF it says ,"user authentication failed",that means

I'm getting a "401 Unauthorized -- Access Denied" when I try to access the SLD.

>You can unlock it through

> sap* user.

I'm not sure what you mean by that; is that what you're describing under points 4-6?

> 4.Go to visual admin

Ok, I need to create a new connection before I can log into the visual administrator;

I'm using the following settings for my connection:

Display name: Local instance

Direct connection to a dispatcher node

Username: Administrator

Host: localhost

Port: 50004

Load balancing method: random

Transport Layer: Default

I can establish a connection, but when I enter the password, I get a "User authentication failed" error.

I've tried different usernames, "J2EE_ADMIN" and "J2EADM", but those didn't work either.

I assume all this should be done once I actually connect to the server with the Visual Admin?

Kind regards,

Hallo Kars,

To log into the Visual Administrator, try the port 50104 instead of 50004. Keep the user as Administrator and try the Master Password you specified during the installation. (Although as has been mentioned before, if you have already tried three times, the user will be unfortunately locked.)

Can you still log into the Portal successfully as the Administrator or do you have a problem only with the SLD?

You mentioned you get a 401 error. This access denied error might be because you are trying to login with a user with no Administrator rights.

I tried that, but that gave me a connection error.

I've got the whole thing running in VMWare, by the way, and I think I'll have more luck just dumping this vm and copying a clean Windows XP vm to start anew; it should take me only about two hours.

I do have a question about the installation though; in one of the screens of the installation wizard I had to enter some user info for the SDM; there's a screenshot at http://analyser.oli.tudelft.nl/nw-install.jpg .

I'm a little confused by this step in the wizard; at first I tried to change the password in the textfields that are already filled in, but then the installation failed with an error saying I shouldn't do that. So I entered a new password in the fields under the "New SDM Password" heading.

Basically I have to questions about this:

1) Is this the user that I should use to log into the SLD later on? If not, then which username is it?

2) Does the "New SDM Password" in fact replace the default(?) password that the installation wizard fills in under "Existing J2EE Engine"? What is the default password?

Thanks in advance,

Kars.

Hallo Kars,

The default password which SAP provides is abcd1234. I would suggest that when you install it again, keep the password the same. In fact, re-write the password fields again as abcd1234 just to be sure.

The SDM password is really a confusing point. The problem is, in a way you need 2 passwords to work with the SDM.

One password (the J2E engine password) is used internally by SDM to connect to the Server. The other password will be used by yourself when you log into the SDM manually using the GUI.

Like I said, in my opinion, keep all the passwords the same when you install it - abcd1234.

abcd1234 is also the Master Password - which means that every application will have this password set in the very begining. After the installation, log into the Portal first (Administrator and Master Password combination). It will automatically ask you to change the password after the first login. When you change your password here, you have only changed it for the Administrator user.

When you start the SDM GUI, you will still have to use the Master Password to first login. After logging in, you can change the password which will be the password YOU use to login. The password that SDM uses INTERNALLY to connect to the J2EE server remains the Master Password. As you can see in your screenshot, the last line tells you that the password being asked for is the one that SDM GUI will use to connect to the server.

To change the Password that SDM uses to connect to the J2EE server, start the config tool. In the config tool under "secure store", you have the option to change the password for the J2E logon by SDM. The username used by SDM is "admin".

I will be back in the office on Tuesday after which I can send you the exact paths in the Secure Store where you can change your SDM password.

But once again, my advice would be to keep all the Passwords given during installation the same.

Hey Kars,

Solved your problem yet? If yes, I would also like to know what it was...

Sorry it took so long to get back to you; I barely have time to tinker with the setup during the week.

Anyway, I've tried your configtool suggestion. I installed a copy of the vm I made right after installing the SAP WAS 6.40 SP 9. I managed to start the configtool and change the administrator password, but still no luck. I shut down the entire WAS, changed the password, and started the thing back up again, but I still couldn't get in. Not with the default password, nor with the standard password I've been using all this time ("sap4all" ).

You also asked if it was just the SLD; well, no. Anything that requires me to log in is giving me trouble. But that is in part because I'm still not sure which account to use with which "subsystem", for lack of a better term.

> Like I said, in my opinion, keep all the passwords the same when you install it - abcd1234.

I'm a little confused; the installation procedure does not provide default passwords. Except for the Administrator user of the "Existing J2EE Engine" (the screenshot). When I try to change that password, the installer terminates with an error:

<a href="http://analyser.oli.tudelft.nl/error-dialog.jpg">error dialogbox</a>

<a href="http://analyser.oli.tudelft.nl/error-log.jpg">error log</a>

You can find the entire error log at Info verbosity <a href="http://analyser.oli.tudelft.nl/errorlog-info.txt">here</a>, and the complete (flow trace level) error log <a href="http://analyser.oli.tudelft.nl/errorlog-flowtrace.txt">here</a>.

I'd hoped installing the DVD that came with the book would be easy; boy, was I wrong The book mentions that the JDI contained in the installation is preconfigured, so I'm a little hesitant ditch the DVD and download the SAP NetWeaver 04 SP16 trial version in the fear that it'll take even more effort to get -that- up and running so I can use it with the book. Argh!

That aside though, thanks for all the help. I really appreciate it.

Cheers,

Kars.

Okay, I gave up on the SAP Web AS that came with the book. Instead I've downloaded the NW 2004 SP 16 trial version (as opposed to SP 9). The installation wizard had a couple of different screens, but other than that it went fine. In fact, I managed to log onto the SLD with the "abcd1234" password!

So, thanks for all the help. I'll have lots of questions later, as, I'm assuming, this trial version is generic, and not tailored for use with the book. I'll just have to learn something about NW admin as well as development.

Hi,

I was in fact about to ask you to give up with that version with the book and download the NW setup from SDN! Anyways, glad to know that you have at least passed the installation stage

Have fun playing arount with it!

Hello Kars,

The path where you can change the password SDM GUI uses to connect to the server is

Secure Store ->admin/password/<SID>

Just click on it and you should be able to change the value at the bottom. After you add the new password, you will need to restart only the SDM and not the entire server cluster as the Config Tool will indicate.

The config tool is started from the batch file configTool.bat lying at

Drive:\usr\sap\<SID>\JC00\j2ee\configtool.
