MSCS - are 4 nodes supported? (2 app servers + 2 DB servers)

I have a client that wants to have One SAP system running off a 4 node MSCS.

2 app servers SAP (one being passive)

2 DB server MSSQL (one being passive)

Of course I've only installed the typical 2 node cluster for SAP.

Before I got down this path I would like to know if anyone has seen a setup like this?

thanks,

Linwood

Hello Linwood,

according installation guide - no. See also SAP note 106275.

What the advantages of such configuration?

Which product?

I don't know of any advantages...when I arrived on site this customer had already built it out this way. I am having them rebuild it. Not sure who advised them on this, probably no one.

thanks

plz have a look at sapnote 112266, n°. 14

-> depending on your release there might be an option to install more than the standard stuff

-> if this is not enough, you could for example implement

HP's CCS which can include even more nodes...

Thanks, this may have been an interesting installation to "Try" ...but I am having the client rebuilt the cluster out to a 2 node system.

having 2x2 MSCS is not always possible. It depends how the DB part is integrated into the installation routine. If on SQL Server it is relatively easy to modify the installation routine, but for Oracle it is almost impossible to install 2x2 cluster - the CI installation really has deep dependencies on Oracle software.

The DB is SQL Server.

Would you happen to know what needs to be changed within the installation script?

Hello Linwood,

what is the reason for such installation?

Note 112266, item 14

>A purely clustered central instance (without a database) can be

>supported, if SAP is of the opinion that such a configuration makes

>sense and there is no alternative.

Hi,

it is possible and supported in installations based on <b>700</b> kernle (not an upgrade). But not in installations based on 640 kernle.

best regards
