Exporting a system with NW2004s - r3load option do nothing !

Dear colleagues ,

exporting an ABAP database based on NW2004s on Linux/oracle 10 on linux

suse on IA64 do noting .This export is a part from

unicode conversion for Solution Manager 4.0 - oracle 10.2 , linux suse 9 on IA64 , export phase after unicode nametab phase.Sapinst start and finished all phase in 5 second after input and the final status is export finished successfully .

Any hint is welcome.

-> what exactly did you do?

-> did you follow instguides & all sapnotes?

-> any logs..like sapinst.log or sapinst_dev.log?

The scope : Unicode conversion Solution Manager 4.0 on Oracle 10.2 on Linux IA64

the manual : Unicode conversion Guide SAP NetWeaver 2004s -SAp basis 7.0 SP11.

The sistem si single page .Made all steps required before export ( SPUMG - all steps including generated nametab ) .the kernel is at latest SP .

Now the step is - perform database export .

All is made like is in System copy system based in SAP NW 2004S SR2 - ABAP

I use the latest IM for NW200s product , choose CRM50 ( or NW200s ) - Ad lyfe cycle -system copy -oracle- based on AS ABAP - export .

After imput phase Sapinst don't generate the files required for export tasks ( STR , etc ) and finish in 5 second state export finished succsesfully .

I really confused because no error appear .

i put from sapinst.log the latest lines

Did you maybe do an export on the same system without deleting the /tmp directory?

Try the following:

- create a new export directory

(mkdir /export)

- step into that directory

(cd /export)

- call sapinst with absolut path from there

(..../IM.../sapinst)

I've set the temporary directory to an all-new-brand one (using the TMPDIR variable; I'm under HP-UX).

I've created a new export directory and call sapinst using the absolut path from there.

Same result: the Database Instance Export service runs in a few seconds without doing anything. No warnings. No errors. It simply does nothing.

This is really strange...

I just tried that on both an HP-UX box and a Linux IA64 box - and it steps further both times...

I use the DVD with number D51032260. (in LABEL.ASC at the end of the line).

Do you use Java 1.4 or 1.5? I use 1.4.2_14 from http://www.hp.com/go/java

Can you see anything in the sapinst_dev.log?

That is exactly the same DVD I'm using:

I'm using Java 1.4.2_12, which accordingly to the OSS note 716926 is supported:

I wish I had an error or even a warning in the sapinst_dev.log, as it would allow me to trace the problem a little bit. But that's the real problem indeed. That everything seems to run fine. Have a look a the last lines in the log file:

I finally got the database export running.

The problem was that we are using a virtual hostname and in that case you need to run sapinst with the parameter SAPINST_USE_HOSTNAME. That is:

./sapinst SAPINST_USE_HOSTNAME=<virtual_hostname>

Oh - thank you for that info!

We don't use (yet) vhosts on our IA64 boxes - that's why I didn't see that error....
