Hi,
I have defined new operation mode and i am trying manually switch my R3 instance (4.7) to this newly defined operation mode.
Having said that, i kick off "switch operation mode --simulate" but it failed:
The error message what i got is,
"
Switching not possible" Reason --> Server is actvie but not configured in operation mode."It must be stopped".
I even bounced the appserver but still i am getting the same error.
Any help on this issue?Appreciated.
Thanks
Ram
Ruchit,
At this point i do not have access to the note you have suggested.
I did bounce the app server now i am getting this error:
Switching not possible for the following server
Reason start profile, instance profile or total no of processes are different
RAMBASIS_RAM_00
start profile Active: D:\usr\sap\RAM\sys\profile\START_DVEBMGS00_RAMBASIS
Configured:D:\usr\sap\RAM\sys\profile\START_RAMBASIS_BATCH
Instance profile: Active: D:\usr\sap\RAM\sys\profile\RAM_DVEBMGS00_RAMBASIS
Configured: D:\usr\sap\RAM\sys\profile\RAM_RAMBASIS_BATCH
Work proc: Active: 17
Configured: 17
Actually, when i switch the app server to op mde its supposed to use profiles with suffix BATCH.But for some reason, the active and configured profiles are different..
Can you tell me what caused this difference?
Thanks
Ram

Hello Rama,
Have you imported the configured profiles? Go to RZ10.Utilities->Import profiles>of active servers.
Please try and make necessary settings in RZ04. Restart the instance and then see.
But why have configured profiles!!. Use standard ones. They are easy to handle.
Don't you auditors check this ?

Hi
Please check that the number of work processes you had configured is constant and none of them has terminated due to some error.

hello Rama,
My understanding of the issue is the following.
You have created copies of standard profiles and made changes to the work process distribution in them. i.e if in standard profiles number of dialog process is 6 and number of batch process is 2 then in copied ones; it is reverse or something like that.
Now what you think is that in case of operation mode switch the profiles will actually get switches. Am I correct ?
If I am correct then I would like to say this line of thought is not correct. At any given point of time any SAP instance will have only one start and instance profile and no switch can occur unlless it is done manually and instance restarted.
In case of operation mode switch only WP distribution changes and nothing else.
You dont need to create mutiple profiles for this purpose.
What needs to be done I can explain however before that I want you to confirm whether my understanding is correct because otherwise it will be useless for you.
Regards.

Hello Ruchit,
I got that fixed .Its working now!!!
As you have mentioned my take on operation mode was wrong.
I though i needed to create additional profiles for operation mode to use.
Then i realized the WP distribution for operation modes (in RZ04).
Still it failed. Then i noticed i have 5 upd processes defined but 1 was failed to start.
So op mode simulation kep failing on that one.But after i fix that one,i could switch app server to operation mode.
I do have one more question on this op mode topic. Now that, my app server is running in op mode. But how do i cancel this op mode manually?
meaning bring back app server to its original state.
Thanks Ruchit for all your helpful and meaningful answers.
Ram
Ruchit,
Thanks for your reply.
This is sand box..absolutely for the basis admins to test r3 admin features..
I did import the files from active server.
This is what i need ..in standrd profiles i have 6 dialog wps and 2 background wps
defined. Now, when i switch this app server to operation mode BATCH i need to have 6 background wps and 2 dialog wps ..
How do i do that?
Thx
Ram
