Early Watch Report "running different SAP kernel "

Former Member

Hi everybody.

We have r3 , bw , SRM and CFM landscape with each of the landscape contains development , quality and Production server.

The Early watch report of BW Production server says

<b>"You are running different SAP kernel releases on your instances. This situation may lead to severe problems and is not supported by SAP"</b>

Kernel Release for Different Landscapes are as follows.

1. BW Prod and Its Two App. Server: Netweaver 4 , 640 , Patch 109

2. R3 Prod and Its Two App. Server : R/3 Enterprise , 640, 80

3. SRM Production server : SRM 5.00 , 700, Sup. Pkg 41

BW and R3 are 64 bit and SRM in 32 bit window based .

Now I am Confused <b>why only on Early Watch Report of BW</b> are saying "Different Kernel Release" . Early watch report of SRM is not saying anything about it.

Thanks & Regards.

Hi Naba J NEog,

Do you use the same kernel on your BW Prod and both BW Applications Servers ?

Hi Yvan,

Same kernel for BW Prod and both BW Applications Servers .

Difference is

BW Prod not matching with R3

BW Prod Not Matching with SRM.

Thanks

Hi Naba,

It does not make sense to me that SAP demands you need the same kernel on BW as on R/3. It is mandatory to use one kernel version throughout one "product" landscape, for example BW.

I have seen these errors before when the CI for example was on a different OS, and although the kernel had the same patch version they had a different build version....

Is BW on one kind of servers? Is it all the same "Unix" or "Windows". Same amount of bits, etc.

Doublecheck the build versions of disp+work (look in the logfiles or use ta st11) as well.

Hope this helps you,

Hi Sjoerd Lubbers ,

Thanks for the reply.

We have same kernel patch 80 for R3 landscape ( Development , Quality and Production and application server ). For BW landscape (all 3 server and apllication server) have same Kernel Patch 109 . Kernel release is 640 for both BW and R3.

All servers of R3 and BW landscape have same OS HP UX 11.3 and 64bit servers. Early watch of BW Prodction server may be saying that kernel Patch(80) is not same with R3 Kernel Patch(109). If it is so, why Early watch of R3 Prod is not saying anything of Patch level ?

But I would like to know if in one "Product" landscape for example R3 Landscape where Development server is based on 32 bit WIndow , Quality is 64bit AIX server and Production server is 64 bit HPUX . Let us also assume all this server have One Kernel Release ( for example 640). Now, Will it be possible to have Same Patch Level ? Does it make sense to have same patch for 32bit Window and 64bit AIX server ?

Thanks and Regards.

Hi Naba,

It does make sense that, also for different OSs, the same patch number is used. Most of the binary software is developed in one language (for example C++). When they compile it they do this for all different OSs. This way they can say that certain bugs are solved for all kernels higher than patchlevel x.

Have a great day,
