Hi Guru's,
I have to update SAP kernel release 6.40 patch level from 43 to 71 but not able to do.<b>I am running solution manager 3.2 on Oracle 9i and Win-2003 OS.</b>Please provide the solutions .
I have downloaded kernel patch from Path at Service matket place ---Support Packages and Patches" SAP Technology Components" SAP SOLUTION MANAGER" SAP SOLUTION MANAGER 3.2" Entry by Component" SAP Solution Manager-SAP KERNEL 6.40 32-BIT UNICODE-Windows Server on IA32 32bit-ORACLE-
SAR SAPEXEDB_71-20000254.SAR Kernel Part II (for Basis 640/620) 71
I followed following Steps:
1. Copied the patch into a temporary directory on system.
2. Unpacked the downloded SAPEXEDB_71-20000254.SAR Kernel Part II (for Basis 640/620) 71 patch in folder /usr/sap/trans directory.
3. Stoped the SAP System using MMC.
4. Saved the kernel directory by copying into a separate backup directory. (\usr\sap\<SAPSID>\sys\exe\run) and overwrite contents of Run folder with new files .
5. Re-started the server.
<b>After logging again in SAP client 000 on checking found server patch level coming same as previous one</b> .
Its not got updated and due to this in Tcode- SPAM I am getting error message :'The OCS package SAPKITL318 requires a kernel with Release 640 and patch number 71. The kernel you are currently using has a lower version.'.
Help!!!!
Regards
Gaurav

kernel release 640
kernel make variant 6400_REL
compilation mode UNICODE
update level 0
<b>patch number 43</b>
source id 0.043
supported environment
database 610,620,630,640
OS WIN NT 5.0,5.1,5.2
You are in patch 43.
Before all, restore your old kernel and, please, try this following statement :
1/ go to \usr\sap\<SID>\sys\exe
2/ save your kernel in run.old directory
3/ create run.new directory
4/ copy SAPEXEDB_71-20000254.SAR to run.new
5/ unpack the package :
SAPCAR -xvf SAPEXEDB_71-20000254.SAR
6/ verify, in run.new, the patch number of new disp+work :
\usr\sap\<SID>\sys\exe\<b>run.new</b>\disp+work -V | more
check the pacth number line, normaly 71
7/ stop SAP, Oracle, saposcol and SAP services
8/ copy and overwrite the content of run.new in run directory
9/ you can verify again if disp+work -V is ok
10/ start your system
Hope it's help.

Hi,
Have you tried to patch the kernel using JSPM.
If it doesnot recognize the kernel please do cross check whether you have taken the correct kernel( unicode or non unicode)
<b>1.</b><b>JSPM procedure</b>
Copy the kernel files to the folder C:\usr\sap\trans\EPS\in.
Then run the JSPM by running the <b>go.bat</b> in the location C:\usr\sap\SID\JCxx\j2ee\JSPM.
<b>2.</b>Or the other procedure is to uncar both the database dependent and independent files.
Then paste the uncarred files in /usr/sap/SID/SYS/exe/run.
Also make sure that when doing this your instance as well as database has to be down.
Any doubts please revert back.
Do reward points if useful
Regards,
Nayana
