Hi DB Experts,
I wold like to know if MaxDB offers a possibility to encrypt the complete Database. If yes, how big is the influence on the performance (response time)?
Thanks and best regards
Matthias
Hello Jiajia Zhang,
you answered on on thread 16 years old - very good, thank you!
But to be honest I don't know what does SAP-wording 'at rest 'exactly means?
I saw there is new patch 10 for MaxDB 7.9 since few days ago,
and in Note SAP says encryption will be in Patch 11, but they can not tell when it will be...

Hello,
There is a SAP note explains SAP MaxDB/liveCache encryption. Always check the note for the latest status.

Hello Matthias
FYI, the en-/decryption of data in the data base is of course CPU-bound. I.e. the CPU-load will increase. How much I cannot tell you, but since standard crypto-algorithms are used, which are tuned for performance, the additional load will probably be moderate.

Hi,
yes, encryption of the volumes and/or backup is being implemented in MaxDB version 7.7. Currently, it's still too early to discuss how much of a performance difference there is.
