Hello!
In what instances would we use 'add-on transport request' which appears in the drop down menu of Configuration tab in solar02 transaction?
Thanks.

When you want to use existing transports to configure your process rather than re-keying in the configuration. However, I cannot imagine why you would want to detail your configuration this way.
Maybe when you want to provide a level of confusion as to how the system was configured? It's sort of similar to when you put a BC Set on the Config tab. Without a document telling you what the BC Set is doing it kind of makes it hard to see the big picture.

Thanks for your reply. I understand the pitfalls of using add-on transport without the corresponding documentation. Our configuration steps are,
- Create IMG object in config tab under solar02
- Configure thro' that
- In the row below choose add-on transport and record the relevant transport
- In the next row Document config
Is this a good practice of configuration thro' SM?
Hello Mike,
We follow the same practice - I believe this is a good practice.
This will tie the documentation, config and transports together. We also use the
Service Desk message to tie the approvals for the transport request to be
moved to other systems.
