Error in leave approval in ESS for second level approval?

Hi experts,

                    I am facing an error in SAP ESS. Whenever approver of first level approves or rejects the leave request, the request is processed succesfully. But when the leave requests are forwarded to second level approvers and when the second level approver tries to take any action by approving/rejecting the leave request, he gets an error message "selected request was already approved/rejected", even though no action has been taken by approver's side.
