Hi In S4 HANA, i ahve seen the additional field on master data reports like data aging - data temperature. Does anyone has any details about this. Thanks Kishan

Hi Kishan,

Data aging in S/4HANA is actually a special column-store table partition (time selection partition), unlike the normal hash and range partitions you perform directly at HANA database level, data aging requires application to perform and manage it, once you turn it on, you can't turn it off, also you can't perform addition management with the traditional ALTER TABLE sql statement.

About data temperature, here's how SAP document describes it:

"we say that items that are still used very often are hot and the other items are cold."

So data aging will move the "cold" data into a dedicated partition, thus improved the HANA system performance by release additional memory required by delta merge action.
