HI

From SD perspective. In sales order line item we have material drop down options like- material by description and so on.

IS there anyway from SD perspective we can enhance one more tab saying material by ID?

we have requirement and looking for the solution.

Hi Ashok,

You need to explore some development for this particular required as its not possible in standard SAP. However really want to know why this particular requirement arise as you are aware a F4 hep is already available in sales order line item level which your user can easily go for, however why its required to had a drop down.

HI,

The reason why because we acquired another firm and they uses SAP as well and it's an integration requirement and we have planned from OM to populate there business in our SAP. Because at the end it's our System who will running the business in future. We re trying to integrate all the business objectives with there business to our business.

However each and every thing which is there in legacy can be moved to SAP as it is, that where business re-engineering come into picture where in you need to make the client understand what suit best in SAP as per there business requirement.

As per your requirement materiel search option is already available in SAP at line item level but that was on a F4 drop down so its not a good idea to go for a development for this as per best practices.

18 is the max limit for materiel code provided by SAP, however if you want to increased this to 20 then you need to incresed the data element for your materiel code i.e. MATNR, a technical guy will help you in this regard there is no other way address this issue.

However increasing or decreasing the data element for any field is highly not recommended by SAP as is going to impact all the program enhancement and hell lot of place where this field MATNR is used.

In a nut cell you need to take care of all the places may a program or enhancement for this changes. But trust me its not a easy job to do.

EVen if we take as 18 character..... what kind of field exit can be used to pull 18 char. In the salesborder line item.... and if yes.... then how the corresponding material 6 char can be enhanced with 18 char

Hi Ashok,

18 character is standard for material masters and there is no need to do anything for it. Once you maintain material code in MM01 and create the sales order that it. Please talk to you SD & MM consultant for details. Its very basis in SAP.
