IPC Configuration with ECC6

I have not worked with IPC before, and I have been reading various documents that have led to more confusion.

From my reading, IPC used to be supported in a standalone package (version 4). Subsequent versions of IPC have been integrated with CRM.

I read SAP Note 844816 - Information for Upgrade from IPC 4.0 to SAP AP 7.00, and we have SAP AP 7.00 0030 installed in our ECC6 system, and we have the VMC activated. I have ran the report RSVMCRT_HEALTH_CHECK and all looks well there.

My question is, what other components are needed? Is IPC standalone even possible, and if not is CRM a requirement (we do not have CRM in our landscape)?

What I have understood on IPC is that it can be configured with

CRM

ERP E-commerce

ERP/ECC with limited functionality.
