Aggregate Table B to Table A

Hello,

my question is simple but I haven't found any answer in the Lumira community pages.

I have several Excel sheets containing the same colums.

Instead of fusioning all Excel sheets into one and the import the file in Lumira, is it possible to agregate each small files directly in Lumira (at any step of the porcess: preparation or visualization)?

Many thanks in advance,

Nicolas

Hi Nicolas,

The Append function in the Prepare tab should be able to give you the desired results. Just make sure,

- you select the right tab every time you add a new data set.

- the columns are matching during the append

Thanks a lot Tammy and Varun: it is very helpful.

However, I've noticed that the calculated dimensions are not updated.

I had to redo the graphs from scratch, defining the calculated dimensions again.

Any solution to update them automatically without redoing them?

Many thanks in advance,

Nicolas

Hi Nicolas,

Usually the order we follow is Merge, Append and then any other data functions. The mapping is usually defined based on the data set and so if more data is added during refresh, it would reflect in the calculated dimensions. In your case, the additional datasets have been added after making changes to the main dataset. Thus it would not be reflected.

I dont think we have an option apart from redo.

Thank you,

Thanks again Varun,

I wish Lumira could redo the steps automatically (ex: with the refresh option): it would be interesting and necessary if Lumira wants to be at the cutting edge of BI tools. I know it is technically speaking 100% possible.

Is it possible to raise this point to the dev team?

On the other hand, we have a new extract every month and redoing the data structure from scratch every month takes a considerable time.

What would you suggest in this scenario please? Use a data base for example?

To "raise this point to the dev team", please create a post in the SAP Idea Place (see link under my signature).

Hi Nicolas,

According to an agile EDW model,

1) all the data is meant to be stored (monthly append) in the data base.

2) business warehouse is meant to process and limit this data using models.

3) front end tools can consume these models with required amount of data for better performance.

But in your case, a simple database with the monthly dump being added as rows would give the desired results on refresh.

Thank you,

Thanks for the advices Varun

I've submitted an idea to update calculated dimensions from Excel imports.

Many companies still work with Excel as main reference unfortunatelly

Have you looked at the MERGE, APPEND, or BLEND features? See
