Hi S/4HANA Gurus,
what is the approach / what are the options for DLM in S/4HANA?
In "old school" ERP archiving was the big theme.
How is it for S/4HANA? Is archiving still the way to go? Or is S/4HANA supporting DLM options like available for BW on HANA especially NearLineStorage and or the complete Dynamic Tiering Concept?
Background of the question is the fact that with S/4HANA reporting will be back on ERP directly (without a DW) and it makes a quite a difference if you have available let's say 1 year of data vs. 5 year etc. (1 year in S/4HANA - 4 years in NearLineStorage)
Haven't found any informations on DLM for S/4HANA so far hence the posting here.
Thanks in advance for all replies.
Best regards,
Axel
Hi Axel,
I'm not speaking for SAP, here're some of my thoughts on this topic.
The data aging is aimed to get better HANA performance. It's not the same as data archiving, the data archiving is dealing with the data life cycle and regulations (well sometimes people do archiving to get better performance).
Basically data aging is a special kind of table partitioning in HANA, once you turned on, you can't turn it off, dynamic tiering is another optional production for HANA.
In S/4HANA, both data aging and data archiving are supported, but only few data aging objects are available. Also something is changing, like the FI_DOCUMENT is an data aging object in S/4HANA, but doesn't support data archiving anymore.
The S/4HANA is still a very new product, so we'll spend sometime to get familiar with it.
Regards,
Michael

Hi Axel,
Have a look at data aging as that should give you an idea. There are a few blogs available in SCM and there is if course SAP HELP documentation around this topic. There is a great lecture from TechEd (last week) by Richard Bremer that covers data management in HANA and you can watch the replay on the relevant page...look for DMM205 – Data Management Strategies with SAP HANA
Hope this helps.
