Did you mean:

Free memory percentage always at 1%

Hi all,

i read a lot of threads and SAP notes regarding memory management but could not find a suitable answer.

The situation is: our customer has some Netweaver 7.4 systems with HANA DB on Linux Suse with Kernel 7.42. Every SAP system shows in transaction ST06 at the Memory section "Free memory percentage = 1%"

Every system has his HDB at a different host, so the DB doesn't use the RAM, PHYS_MEMSIZE is set to the maximum amount of RAM available on the host (in this case 65553). An average 60 users are logged on to the system...

My question is, if it is normal that the "Free memory percentage" always shows 1% ?

Yes this is normal, Linux uses the free memory as disk cache and speeds up the system, this is well known...  If you check in top you will see a large portion of your memory as "cached", the memory will be reallocated as needed.

Read,  this informal cool explanation Help! Linux ate my RAM!

Thanks JP for the URL, this is what I looked for. Now we can convince the customer too that it's fine as it is.
