Empty tables in Webi reports with Merged objects after update to BI 4.2 SP03

Hello,

After an update of our SAP BusinessObjects BI 4.2 SP02 environment into SAP BusinessObjects BI 4.2 SP03 version we have encountered the following issue:

  1. Open an existing Webi report (saved in repository) which was created using several Queries and having several Merged objects via Webi Rich Client or Webi DHTML.
  2. Refresh the report and notice that all Webi report tables have disappeared. The tables still exist as I can see them in the Structure view but when switched to Data view an empty space is shown instead of tables.
  3. Unmerged any pair of objects and then Merge them again - the tables are shown again.

Did anyone have encountered this situation in BI 4.2 SP03 version for existing Webi reports?

Looking forward any feedback.

Thank you in advance.

Best regards,

Donatas Budrys

Hi All ,

Does any of you have server access . If yes  , try deleting data folder .

Make sure you keep the backup before deleting .

Thanks

Hi,

Is there a way how could we involve SAP Support Engineers into this issue?

I think this issue may be the same as the problem discussed in

Note 2369088 - There is no data in the report when refreshing same WebI document or scheduling the WebI document to Excel format after upgrade from BI4.1 patch2.3 to BI4.2 SP03

A developer is currently investigating.

Even though the Note mentions Excel, the steps to reproduce discusses the merged dimensions as part of the issue.

There is no specific fix information yet however the Note will be updated when it is known.

Great, this note seems to have the same problem described.

Hopefully it will be properly resolved soon.

Hi, All,

SAP Note - "2369088 - There is no data in the report when refreshing same Web Intelligence document or scheduling it to Excel format" - was updated and states that:

  • "This issue is caused by a defect in the product."
  • "This issue is fixed in the patches listed in the "Support Packages & Patches" section below."

Unfortunately but the "Support Packages & Patches" section is still absent in this Note so there are no news when and at this Patch this problem will be solved.

Hi Donatas,

You are correct that the Note does not reflect any fix information as of yet - it is still being worked on by Development. Once it is known exactly which Patches and SPs it will go into, the Note will be updated at that time.

Hi,

I've found one more workaround:

  1. Open the report.
  2. Refresh. At this point the tables disappear.
  3. Save the report and close it.
  4. Open the report again and notice that all tables are displayed again.
  5. Refresh the report. Tables don't disappear.

HI All ,

Found a note with similar issue ,which says its known bug with 4.2 SP3 . Try updating to latest patch in SP3.

2308336 - Data disappears from Web intelligence document on BEx query having BW variable(s) when showing User Prompt Input pane and then switching report tab in HTML report panel

Thanks, we'll check this solution.

Meanwhile we found a new workaround: Run the report, then simply click Undo button and then Redo.

That works for us. Hope for others too.

Hi, Sateesh,

Thank you for your feedback. Unfortunately this NOTE refers to an issue found in BI 4.2 SP02 and that it's solve in BI 4.2 SP02 Patch and in BI 4.2 SP03.

In our case we are using BI 4.2 SP03 and no Patch for this SP was released so far.

Thank you for your efforts.

Hi, Sateesh,

Yes, I've tried this issue in several computers and in the server itself and the problem was the same.

Facing the same issue here.

We migrated from 4.1 SP7 to 4.2 SP3.

Not all reports have the issue. Even with merged objects. However, still a significant number of our reports have problems like described by Donatas Budrys.

Donatas also mentioned the unmerge/merge action to see data again. An alternative way that we noticed: When you run the report after entering the prompts, wait for the empy report, untick the Document property "Refresh on open" , save the report, reopen the report, then you can see the data in the report, until  you refresh the report again with different prompt values.
.

We hope to get a proper solution!
