Hi,
I'm a bit confused, because I know that I've used this function in earlier versions.
saprouter -t3
That should bring the whole SAPRouter into trace level 3, but unfortunately in the newer version that is not working anymore, -t3 is trying to activate trace for the connection number 3 and if no connection of number 3 is available, I get the following error message:
Wed Sep 14 11:01:44 2016

I'm using the latest SAPRouter executables (WinX64) and the SAP Help site is telling me, that it should work:
Syntax that works:
saprouter -t = toggles between 1 and 2, or from a higher (2 or 3) trace level to 1
saprouter -t<id> = activate trace for that connection
saprouter -t "on <id>"
Could any of you can confirm that the command -t<trace level> is not working anymore and can maybe tell me why?
Thanks and best regards,
Tobias
Hello Tobias,
If your saprouter is running with trace level 1 (default level), executing "saprouter -t" (without any other arguments) will increase its trace level to 2.
If the saprouter was running with trace level 2 or 3 (e.g., since its startup), executing "saprouter -t" reduces the trace level to 1.
Adding an argument to the "-t" option indicates that you want to increase/manage the trace level of that particular connection/IP address.
This is documented at the PDF file attached to the SAP note 30289 - SAProuter documentation.
Best regards,
Isaías

Hi Isaías,
Thanks for your feedback, but this is very confusing, because the help site (newer release as the pdf) says:
To change the trace level in a productive system, enter option -t in the input field:
- Windows/Unix: saprouter -t<trace level>
Optional: To activate the trace for single connections, enter option -t in the input field:
- Windows/Unix: saprouter -t<command>
Command: saprouter -t "on <id>"
- This command activates the trace for this (existing) connection. <id> is the number of the connection. You can see this number when you display the connection information (option saprouter -l).
I know that I can just toggle between 1>2, 2>1, 3>1, but I cannot switch from 1 to 3 for all connections?
The problem is, that I need the first seconds of the connection, if I wait for the connection I will miss the important part!
My problem is, I cannot start a second router on another port, because just 3299 is open and a restart of the router will cut all connections!
Best regards,
Tobias
Hello Tobias,
I tested the last patch level of all available, supported saprouter releases (721, 742, 745).
All behave as described at the PDF from the SAP note.
I have also checked the saprouter behavior using other internal SAP resources, and there is no possibility of increasing the trace level of a running saprouter from 1 to 3.
You can only increase it to 2 by executing "saprouter -t".
I believe that the SAP help page has inaccurate information.
Do you have any specific requirement for needing a level 3 trace?
In my experience, I never had to get a level 3 trace. The trace level 2 was always enough.
Best regards,
Isaías
Hi Isaías
Well level 3 is a recommendation by SAP during an incident, but that's another story.
OK, I get it, the toggle command is just for a toggle, curious that there is no way to increase the trace level to 3.
Nevermind, our customer opened the port 3298 so I can start a second SAPRouter with level 3 and just that needed user is going to use this connection.
Thank you very much for your very quick help!
Best regards and a nice weekend,
Tobias
