Migration of 4.6C SR2 to Linux x86_64 with Oracle 10.2.0.2

Hi,

We are trying to do a migration of a 4.6C system to Linux on x86_64 plattform. When creating the target system we would like to use Oracle 10.2.

From Note 940794 we have found:

“A direct installation with Oracle 10.2 is possible for the following SAP versions:

R/3 46C SR2 (46D_EXT kernel)”

It says further in the note that:

Note 946141 (4.6D_EXT/Unix), contains technical information about how to install SAP products on Oracle 10.2.

It also says: You can find information about the releases in the corresponding release notes for the SAP kernel: Notes 156548 (4.6x)

We have looked at these notes and still do not find a solution

When installing we are using the 4.6D_EXT for Linux 32 bit from CD 51020565, and we have replaced the SAPEXE.SAR and SAPEXEDB.SAR with versions from the marketplace under "SAP KERNEL 4.6D_EXT 64-BIT" > "Linux on x86_64 64bit" according to note 939406.

Does anyone have any experience on this scenario?

Thank you for your help

.

Regards

Jan Arne Vestbø

Hi,

Yes 46c system is possible to go to Oracle 10.2 provided you have the EXT kernel.

We have used a database backup for the system copy to restore 32-Bit

9.2 based database backup to Oracle 10.2 64-Bit according to note 940811, the reason was no special steps are required for the upgrade from Oracle

9.2.0 32-bit to Oracle 10.2.0 64-bit if you follow the Oracle Database Upgrade Guide 10gr2, did run utlrp.sql multiple times even though Oracle said it's automatic for 9i to 10g.

Thanks,

George

Hi Jan Arne

Apparently you ran into a problem, if you give more info, we should be able to get you across the errors. As your original post is from May 3rd this request is probably outdated by now.

You were on the right track, note 946141 has the instructions to carry out the migration with a fully 64bit enabled SAP / Oracle 10.2 target. Idea is to use 64bit Oracle rdbms software, 64bit Oracle client software and 64bit 4.6D_ext kernel. The only 32bit software in use is r3setup, r3setup is used only in the migration phase. Using a backup to accelerate the migration is supported by both r3setup and Oracle, in addition one has to recreate the Oracle system tables when going from 32bit to 64bit (note 940811). All in all the installation/migration is very similar to the standard installation, one just has to use the 64bit components we have made available, r3setup 32bit can work with the 64bit versions as well.

Best regards

Manfred

I´m performing exactly the same with Suse10. Did you make the migration with success? My installation is becoming quite "handmade" because of rebuilding scripts.

Any suggestion or question pls let me know.
