Hi expert,
The basis team are planned to apply the support package ST-PI& ST-A/PI in our BW system.
Could you please explain me this plugin
what are the impact in the BW system?
what are the BW activities and check during the apply?
What are the BW tools in this plugin.

Hello Crossmen,
ST-PI and ST-A/PI tools are Add-ON's. These components contains Service Data Control Center (SDCCN). Contains various function modules and reports for data collection. Collected data will
be utilized in Service Session and provides information in Early Watch Reports etc.
AP/I contains tools contain Analysis Tools ST14(Application Analysis) St12 Trace Analysis.
ST13 have a bunch of BW tools to to Analyze BW performance.
As such there is no impact on System, if you install these add-ons

You can also have more information in the below OSS notes. Sometime, you will have short dump in ST13 --> BWTOOOLS after ST-PI and ST-A/PI upgrade, the work around is given in the OSS note 1469638. Hope this may help you.

Hi,
When applying ST-PI and ST-A/PI in R/3 systems, there is no activity related to BW in R/3 systems or in BW system. In R/3 systems, after applying the patches, run program "RTCCTOOL" in transaction SE38 and click "Addons&Upgr" then click on "Procedure after addon implementation". Hope this may help you.

ST-PI and ST-A/PI are only Add-ons. These Add-ons will only be used for data collection / transmission from managed system to solution manager / OSS, application analysis and trace analysis. These add-ons have no impact on business process, you can apply these add-ons when the system is up and running, no downtime is required. On the other hand, if you apply Support Package (like upgrade to next SPS level or next release) you need to clear logistic queues to avoid any impact on the business data. So there is no requirement to clear logistic queues when you are applying ONLY these add-ons in R/3 system. Hope this may help you.

Just let them do it. These tools are for monitoring of your system from Solution Manager (and from SAP remote support, if you need it). Without them, you cannot manage your landscape. They won't impact your regular BW functionality. The impacts are all in the Basis area, and even there they aren't that big (except they improve functionality for Solution Manager).
