Which are the real benefits of SAP CAR?

Hello SAP Gurus,

I will appreciate any relevant information concerning following questions:

1-    Which are the occurrences of SAP CAR. Till now I have found this 3:

-       CAR rapid-deployment solution

-       SAP CAR

-       SAP CAR development center

Or should I consider all it as part of a platform called SAP CAR?

Please correct me if I am wrong. Just trying to get an overview of the solution.

2-    Is SAP CAR just providing an interface to other sap solutions with data integration?  A company could therefore basically with some time and effort implement it itself?

3-    Is it only an additional database? If my ERP, CRM … are already running on SAP HANA? Which add value does I really have from CAR?

I guess with the development center I can specify my own KPI and GUI?

Thanks in advance

Best regards

Hi Kevine

Here is my understanding.

SAP CAR  is available as CARAB (retail application bundle) on cloud or on premise using following deployment solution.

  • RDS: Its fully activated CAR solution where you can straightaways use or activate the business function.  Most of the notes, add ons and switch are already applied.
  • CAR as stand alone solution where other application in the bundle is not activated or applied. You can choose them as per your business requirement.

Please refer link for more details  http://scn.sap.com/community/rapid-deployment/blog/2014/11/28/get-your-own-sap-customer-activity-rep...

CAR development centre is instance of CAR available on SAP cloud application library for  SAP implementation partners where they can develop and enhance the CAR scenarios.  http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-62097

CAR is not the interface, its the repository which holds all customer data and on top of that have native application (OSA, Inventory visibility, UDF etc) available. These applications are based on the complex algorithm and VDM developed by SAP. Therefore implementing a CAR like solution will be a challange.

CAR is not a database, its a solution whcih run on HANA database. The difference is CAR comes with out of box applications (OSA, Inventory visibility, UDF etc) and VDM's which is not available on HANA.

Thanks
