SAP NW HA setup on Oracle solaris cluster ?

We are setting up cluster as two node LDOM cluster with failover for the SAP Application with SAP Central Service and Primary Application Service running on one node. Enqueue Replication service and Oracle database 12c running on the other node.

Number of Cluster Nodes: Two node LDOM cluster

SAP system : ABAP only SAP system

          Solaris OS version : 11.3

          Oracle Cluster version           : 4.3

Node 1

Node 2

SAP ABAP central services

SAP replicated Enqueue server

SAP Primary Application Server

Oracle Database

When we setup the cluster with one shared LUN for ASCS and PAS and one shared LUN for database and local  storage for ERS the installation went successful however the issue with ERS service which was not stable on the second node and continuously switching between the nodes.

We are pondering over below questions to ascertain our cluster setup. If anyone has performed this cluster setup, please help to help on this.

  • For the SAP ERS service,  is it recommended to use local only storage or shared storage that will be floating across both nodes with logical hostname?
  • Can we use a single shared storage LUN for ERS and Oracle database OR is it mandatory to have one shared LUN for ERS and one shared LUN oracle database?
  • If we use a single LUN storage for ERS and DB together, in the event of DB failover both ERS and DB will come to node 1. That means ERS service will not be running as per functionality before failback. Is it acceptable behaviour?
  • If ERS is installed on logical hostname with local dedicated storage then in the event of failover, how the synchronization of logs will happen between local directories of ERS on both nodes?

Ashraf

Hi Ashraf,

You can go with the ERS installation locally in the both the Nodes with the different Instance ID's, then it will resolve your issue.

Thank you,

Chowdary.

Hi Chowdary,

Thanks for the response. In the official Oracle solaris cluster guide and Oracle white paper certified with SAP Netweaver , it is mentioned to install ERS with logical hostname on shared filesystem.

As we are on Solaris 11.3 OS , zfs filesystem doesn't support global filesystem. This is the reason we are not able to have ERS on shared filesystem.

Just need to check on provided solution , whether it will be applicable for this setup ?

Ashraf

Hi Ashraf

I am not sure about solaris. In widows failover cluster we have install the ERS in local disk with different instance. If possible you can raise the medium ticket to SAP Support.

Refer the SAP system copy guide from the follow SAP link SAP NetWeaver Guide Finder
