SAP Fiori architecture for S/4HANA (Central Hub or Embedded)

Hi all,

What is the general architecture guidelines for Fiori on S/4HANA.

Does one need to plan for a separate Front-End server for UI components or should this be based on an Embedded model?

Regards

Sergio

HI Sergio

As Ning Tong has indicated the official recommendation for S/4HANA is hub mode, ie a separate front end server, which is your SAP Gateway server.  Actually for all Fiori scenarios we recommend hub mode.

There are a variety of reasons why but in my experience the most important is this...

Fiori & SAPUI5 tech is still undergoing very rapid innovation. We find customers want & need to keep up with this innovation. Eg to take advantage of new capabilities such as Fiori 2.0 co-pilot, Smart Business Modeller for KPI tiles, Fiori Elements which bring both new capabilities & between 80-95% savings in development costs, etc

To keep up with innovation it is necessary to upgrade the front end server at a more rapid rate than is possible or desirable for the backend...especially when counting the cost & time to regression test all your use cases.

I currently have customers who - against advice - started with embedded mode & rapidly reached a point where it became impossible to move forward past their first use cases without upgrading.  Consequently they are now going through the pain of moving from embedded to hub mode.

Of the vast majority of customers who started with hub mode I have yet to see any even contemplating moving to embedded mode.

There are a few who are considering moving from an on-premise Gateway to cloud - ie HCP Fiori Cloud Edition + HCI OData Provisioning. This also is easier if you already in hub mode

Hope that helps with your thinking

Hi Sergio,

The following figure shows an overview of the system landscape using a Central Hub Deployment:

While installing SAP Fiori apps, we recommend separating the front-end components with the UI layer from the back-end components that contain the business logic and the back-end data.

This deployment option has the following strategic advantages:

  • Decoupling the lifecycle of the UI apps from the back-end, which has these advantages:
  • Faster iterations for the UI apps
  • Changes to the UI are possible without having development authorizations in the back-end.
  • Single point of maintenance of UI issues, such as browser support and updated versions of SAP UI5 libraries
  • Central place for theming and branding SAP Fiori apps

Ning

hi,

except grc for remaining systems we are following embeded fiori approach , for grc we are using seperate box ( using central hum fiori approach) , so we want to use S4 one front end for both embeded and central hub.

is it possible, if possible what type of settings we need to maintain in front end (S4 hana 1909) and back end (GRC)

regards
