Experts,
We are trying to configure PCo 2.3 on the Production Server accessing Allen Bradley PLC Tag Data through OPC Kepware EX 5. Both PCo, Kepware and MII reside on the same server.
While adding a Source System and selecting Kepware OPC Server 3.00 DA from the list of the available OPC DA Agents, we receive an error from PCo. The error states "Connectivity Framework Error - External component thrown an exception". This error doesn't allow us to move forward with the configuration. It works if we select 2.05A Kepware OPC Server from the list.
PCo Version : 2.305
Kepware Version : KepwareEX5.4.135
.NET Version : 2.0.5
OS : MS Windows Server 2008 R2
We have the same components and config's on few other servers and all of them works well. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Hi Rajath,
Look in the Windows Event Log to see if there is an error recorded with any additional data. If not, please log a support ticket for MFG-PCO for this issue, and include complete details, log exports, screen shots, etc. Both PCo and Kepware are very old versions and you should be planning an upgrade to the latest versions of each, as there have been numerous product and performance improvements to PCo since your current version.

Hi Steve,
Thanks for the response. Interestingly, there was no error logged in event viewer which makes us think that this one-off anomaly on this server.
Eventually,we ended up creating another VM Server and followed the exact same steps and we were able to successfully complete the installation of PCo with Kepware (same versions) without any issues.
We are in the middle of a massive MII Project, hence we will need to keep the versions of PCo and Kepware to be the same for a while before we think about the upgrade. But thanks for the suggestions.
regard,
Rajath
