Hi All,

I'm updating dual-stuck Solman 7.1 and now I'm on the Preprocessing step.

During the update I've faced to this error in phase  "MAIN_SHDRUN/START_SHDI_FIRST"

Pls see the screenshot.

Any suggestions how to fix the problem?

Arman

Hi Arman,

Additionally, please increase the swap size to a larger one (Computer -> Property -> Advanced system setting -> performance -> Setting -> Advance -> Custom Size), for example, 38GB. Restart OS to take into effect.

Then start SAP instance and continue to update.

Hi All,

Thank you all for the help.

I've learned a lot during this))

The problem is fixed after increasing the Maximum size.

Hi Arman,

the other way instead to increase memory resources is to limit the memory consumption in the shadow instance.

Unfortenally you did not share the profile file for that, so we were not able to proof the memory parameters for the shadow instance to fit with your machine parameters.

Kind regards,

Christoph

Hi Arman,

From the trace file, it is an issue from memory allocation. You have page file of size 20 GB. I suggest you can increase the page file (no need to reboot the server) and try to restart the shadow instance from MMC. You can also refer the OSS notes for page file calculation.

1518419 - Page file and virtual memory required by the SAP system

1790345 - PXA_NO_SHARED_MEMORY

FYI, you can find path of shadow instance profile in the header of trace file.

make       multithreaded, Unicode, 64 bit, optimized\par

profile    C:\\usr\\sap\\SOL\\SUM\\abap\\system\\SOL\\SYS\\profile\\SOL_DVEBMGS04_SOLMAN1\par

pid        8152\par

Hi Arman,

  1. please share the logfiles mentioned in the error message you got.
  2. please check the default.pfl of the shadow instance and share it here too.
  3. how about the memory consumption during the start of the shadow instance?
  4. is the instance number which shadow wants to use (04) really free on the host?

Kind regards,

Christoph

Hi Christoph,

After restarting computer the instance 04 appeared in sapmmc.[see the pic]

but now when I'm running the shadow instance the "disp+work.EXE" stopped.

Where is located the default.pfl file?

Please just search for the filename.

typically for normal installation it is:

\usr\sap\<sid>\sys\profile

but for shadow instance you have to search under ths SUM directory.

Hi Arman,

your shadow instance wants to start with 10 GB RAM allocated. Is this available, when all other instances are running in the host?

<ES> Info: em/initial_size_MB( 9999MB) not multiple of em/blocksize_KB( 4096KB)\par

<ES> Info: em/initial_size_MB rounded up to 10000MB\par

Please check this in your memory management of windows task manager.

Hi Christoph,

There is only 8500MB available.

So if I'll add more 5GB ram the shadow instance will run?

Give this a try if memory extension is possible. In any case please attach me the *.pfl files from the shadow instance.

shadow instance is below the /SUM/...

Search for "*.pfl" under this directory.

Hi Arman,

the profiles are under /SUM/abap - please search for "*.pfl" or "*VEB*".
