Inventory Manager: Silly question regarding adding new fields / UI changes

We've rolled out IM 4.2.

The users are asking for some UI changes and perhaps a new field for Bin Location.

Is the only way to do this to copy the standard SAP Application into a Z application, then find the pages and make the changes there?

What happens when an upgrade comes along?

Our consultant says if / when we upgrade, we'd have to manually re-enter whatever customizations that have been done.

Is that correct?

Its not required to copy the whole application into Z application. you can directly make changes in the existing application by putting name of the field as Z or Y.

yes, while upgrading to new version you have to manually import the customization to the application.

When you say "manually import".. is there a tool for that? or is it a side by side comparison of the code.. and then copy/paste the customized code into the new version?

Agentry plugin provides a tool by default called as Agentry Compare. here you have to manually compare and import the application.
