Creating ODATA Service in ECC vs Creating ODATE Service in Gateway

Hello,

I will ask a simple and -maybe stupid- question.

Transaction SEGW exist in ECC and Gateway,  can able to create ODATA service and host in ECC without using Gateway?

If I use Gateway to host ECC service, what is the benefit?

Thank you for responses for the simple question.

Hello Tuncay,

Transaction SEGW will be present both on GW & ECC and is used to model the service and generate our run-time objects ( Design Time ).

Service can be hosted inside ECC if GW component is already a part of ECC ( Embedded Architecture )

If GW component in not a part of ECC and is residing on another system ( Separate GW Hub System ), then service will be hosted in this GW system.

Below will help with all the necessary details. Please have a look->

Deployment Options - SAP Gateway Foundation (SAP_GWFND) - SAP Library

Hi Tuncay,

SEGW is used to create the service. In Gateway(/IWFND/MAINT_SERVICE) you register the service to allow the external world to access it.

If you are creating a service using ECC data, it is suggested that your service is created in ECC(or other such backend systems as per the requirement if GWFND component is installed) and register it in gateway.

Hope this helps.

Thanks
