Error occurring while recovering Hana database during BW system Refresh.

We have SAP Hana system.

We are trying to refresh quality system from Production system.

We have manually moved HDP backup to quality server via SCP commands . it was successfully completed.

We ran command hdbbackupcheck -v HBP_FULL_2016-06-13_1000_databackup_1_1

which was successful in HDP system but it was giving error in HDQ system.

so we thought it will be due to copy - something must have happened while coping  .

so we again transferred that backup from HDQ to HDP . and checked again in HDP this time it was successful , it means backup is not corrupted.

other thing we observed that we have kept HDP backup in same file system where regular HDQ backup is happening.

we are able to recover database using HDQ backup in same file system.

It means there is no issue related to file system as well.

We are using xfs file system type for backup filesystem.

Please suggest

-if any pre step need to be done to use HDP backup in HDQ.

-If any pre steps need to be done.

-if any changes need to be made at os level or any parameter need to be changed.

There is one idea in our mind

we can share filesystem from HDP to HDQ then mount it in HDQ system and then we will make soft link of that newly mounted filesystem and use it for recovery.

By doing this we will be able to use direct backup from HDP and we don't have to copy it in HDQ.

Please share suggestion will it be helpful ?

yes, this solution permits to bypass the copy fo the files.

In the past, I used this solution in order to access directly to the backup data for the restore activity.

Can you confirm the you flagged the option "initialize log area" ?

Hi,

Issue is resolved .

In our case Database version of target system was lower than the Source database.

According to standards Target Database version must be either same or above.

Hi David ,

Thank you for the video.

We are trying to recover from HANA Studio.

Right click Database , backup and recovery option

then with no catalog recovery option.

Please find error.

it's a single system, o multi tenant db ?

and.. did you flag the "initialiaze log area" during the recovery?

It is a single system.

If we use other system's database ,do we need to change any configuration parameter file  or any other file at os level?

no nothing, you have to only insert the path of the backup, and flag "initialiaze the log area"

I did a system copy last month and I did not have any issue , and I didn't do any additional configuration on HANA
