SAP MDG Hub – Multiple source systems - Central Master Data Management

Hi MDG Experts,

I am new to SAP MDG.

The business scenario we have is, we have more than 10 source systems both SAP & Non-SAP. We want to use MDG hub for central master data management and approval process.  For each source systems, data users will come to MDG hub and create/modify their master data and approver approve it. Once it is approved, these master data will be extracted and send to target systems.

My questions::

1. The above scenario is possible with MDG Hub

2. How to we control each source system and its approvers in MDG Hub

3. How do we implement security for each source system and its requesters and approvers.

4. How much approx. work effort / custom development is needed for the above scenario

Anyone implemented the above business scenario or how do handle this in  MDG?

1. The above scenario is possible with MDG Hub

• Yes, it is possible in MDG Hub. MDG hub system could be used for central master data management, approval process and distribution of master data to both SAP/non SAP systems.

2. How to we control each source system and its approvers in MDG Hub

• Dedicated roles could be created for each Master data object and could be assigned to the users.
• For example, consider master data as Material. So one role for Requester and one for Apporver users can be created and these could be assigned to the respective users.
• Through MDG provided Rule based Workflow, against the Approve step, this approval role has to be maintained and MDG takes care of rest of Worlflow.

3. How do we implement security for each source system and its requesters and approvers.

• Why security is different for each source system users when all of them are creating the same master data ?
• One role for requestor can be created and this role can be assigned to requester type users from all source systems and similary for approvers.

4. How much approx. work effort / custom development is needed for the above scenario

• Effort depends on the Data Model complexity, validations, replication scenarios.., Answering this will be subjective. Too early to answer.
