Dialog Work Processes status "running" & action "Commit"

Hello,

We are running SAP R/3 4.7 with kernel 6.40 (patch 344) with Oracle 10.2.04 on Windows 2003.

Actually we are facing a strange performance problem.

We are finding situations where multiple dialog work processes are in status "running" & action "Commit" for several days.

Another side effect of the problem was that we are not able to cancel these processes from SM50 or SM04. We have to cancel them at OS level.

We haven't found any notes describing this issue.

Please provide us your help.

Thank you very much.

Best regards,

Zobair

Hi Zobair,

Please check what is the corresponding database session is doing from st04, session monitor.

Also if there is any lock from db01.

Best regards,
James

Hello James,

Thank you for your reply.

The corresponding Oracle sessions are in status "Inactive". There is no change on any of the number (Logical Reads, Phys. Reads ...) Only "Wait time" is increasing. Nothing else.

No lock in DB01:

Any idea?

Thank you.

Regards,

Zobair

Hi Zobair,

looks like something wrong with work process. Usually the root cause is hard to addressed.

In the past, we have similar issue happening on windows.

If you are SAP customer, you can reach to SAP support under BC-CST component, open system connection.

Best regards,
James

Hello Zobair,

Check the following:

1. The developer trace of the work process.

2. SM13 and SM12

3. The Oracle trace file.

4. Windows event viewer.

Over and above that, as James suggested, open a support message.

I suspect a Kernel problem.

What do you think?

Dear Friends,

We did a kernel upgrade but the problem persists.

In fact, we have also a SAP Portal 701 SP3 connected to this R/3 backend. Several BSP applications were developed. These pages are called from the portal.

Some sessions remain open after logoff from enterprise portal (not all sessions)

In SM04, that sessions are showed.

These sessions are linked to dialog processes that stay in status "running" & action "Commit" for several days.

We have set the parameter "rdisp/plugin_auto_logout" to "10 min" and it works correctly. Except for some sessions, there is no impact. Sessions are not killed.

Please provide us your help.

Thank you very much.

Best regards,

Zobair
