Parallel Development in Information Design Tool

Hi All,

We need some recommendations from you on the issues we face with the usage of Information Design Tool.
We work in a project, where in we have to do 2 types of work on a single specific universe

1. Need to do parallel development on the universe for 2 project at the same time
2. Need to fix the Application Maintenance (AM) tickets in the same universe and deploy it to Production, when other project is being developed.

Product Details: SAP BO4 Information Design Tool Support Pack 4
Universe format: ".unx"
Number of objects in the universe > 5000 (large universe)

Please provide any best approach/recommendations to be followed for the issue.

Best Regards,

Kavitha

Hi Kavitha,

You could use the Project synchronization feature provided in IDT. This would allow multiple developers to work on the same universe project independently.

Please refer the below SCN blog for detailed steps:http://scn.sap.com/community/bi-platform/blog/2013/07/22/tutorial-step-by-step--project-synchronizat...

Hope this helps.

Hi Niraj,

Thanks for the response.

This is the shared project option. I have seen in many forums, that it involves lot of risk when handled with big universes. There are chances of loosing information.

Do you still recommend this?

Thanks,

Kavitha

with project synchronization you can lock/unlock the Business layer and data foundation layers.one time one developer can work on business layer or one on data foundation layer.

with this you can avoid some risk.but again if multiple developer going to be work on single universe risks always be there.

If you are going with this approach before make do & don't list and how you are going to communicate and each one updates.

Lock and unlock a shared resource: Information design tool 4.x - YouTube

Other that you have only one option to go with one by one changes.
