Hi all,
Good day...
I am using now windows server 2003 enterprose edition with MS SQL 2005, kernal 7.00 (SP -291) unicode. Now some HDD in our server is crashed and we want to install in new server.
My question is that whether our SAP can install in WINDOWS SRV 2008 R2/IA64 64BIT ?
Kindly help
Regards
Praveen
Hi Praveen,
IA servers are costly so again check the PAM and go with the window server 2008 and MSSQL server 2008.

Hi Praveen,
Do you have the backup of mssql server 2005?
if yes , then you can build the new server using backup and restore method on mssql server 2008 as mssql server is backward compatible.
If you are building a new server and sap system from scratch , then you can go with the new version of mssql and os.

Hi Ashuthosh,
I'll clearly explain my problem. We are using Blade server here. Last week one HDD got crashed. So we want to replace that. For that we want to replicate the same environment to another system. We have installed windows server 2008 R2 64 bit in a new system. Now we want to use SAP from the new system. For that i have to install db first. We are using MS SQL 2005 here. I want to install MS SQL 2005 in the new system. Management is also asking that whether MS SQL 2005 can be installed in windows server 2008 R2 with the Same SAP( 7.00 kernel with SPL 291) ??
Regards
Praveen
hi Praveen,
As per the PAM screen-shot, the answer is Yes.
Make sure you use MS SQL 2008 IA64 version to install and not 2005 as it is out of support.
