Is ERS needed of RKS with enque/backup_file configured..??

Is ERS really needed for RKS if backup file is configured. According to documentation when ers restarts, it will check and load the locks from this backup file. So is ERS becoming redundant[if we keep HA aside].

Hi,

To my understanding

enque/backup_file is used to store update lock entries only, rest will not be captured. This is to maintain DB consistency.

You can find the difference by looking in to SM12 result screen, the lock entries with backup flag set are update locks, and they appear darker and the normal lock entries in SM12 screen.

Where as,

RKS is responsible to replicate all the locks (update and normal) that were there during failover/switchover to the target node.

Both enque/backup_file and RKS servers different purpose.
