Hi Experts,

After every planning cycle in demand planning, Planning area is taken as backup to BW cube for KPI's.

What kind of precautions to be taken while taking the backup ?

Do we need to lock the users or planning book to be restricted to be used by users while taking backup ?

TIA

In addition to above points, make sure to schedule the process chain in the Non-Business hours, also there is no other parallel process chain running at the same time.

You can use the below post to find out the where used list of the planning area in the process chains and make the execution plan for back up process chain.

Hi

Please find below the inputs from my side.

What kind of precautions to be taken while taking the backup ?

1. Make sure you are running your default macros job upfront to assure you have consistent data into planning book and backup cube.

2. You should not have running any other jobs (calculating or loading) while you start extracting the data.

3. Please decide the number of backup request you want to store in the backup cube as it could be performance issue or data storage issue.

4. Please add load date as characteristic in the Back up cube to separate the data loads over the period.

5. Execute the consistency check jobs before you start the extraction.

Do we need to lock the users or planning book to be restricted to be used by users while taking backup ?

Yes it´s good idea to lock the user or planning book to avoid any changes during the extraction as well as to avoid locking issues.

Please let us know if this information help you.

Thanks
