4.6c Legacy data into SAP S/4 HANA

Need some advice. First allow me to explain our situation.

Currently my company is implementing SAP S/4 HANA a fresh re-install. We are coming from SAP ECC 4.6c. From a project point of view we are towards the end of the BluePrint phase. Yes i'm aware already on the new agile methodology. We are about to get into the realization phase. The problem is that our legacy system being SAP ERP ECC 4.6c has about 15 years of data which we cannot lose or disregard. In short alot of this data is maintained in Z-Tables especially from production as our industry and company is unique. Japanese automobile industry with Heijunka and Kanban processes. So there was no standard way of doing some of the business processes when the system was implemented in some time back in 2001. So alot of customizations.

SAP BW is not an option at the moment. Meaning our company is not going with it. So we're looking for the best way to get at least 2 or 3 years of data into our new SAP system. The data will be used for reporting purposes or analysis comparisons and those sort of things.

Some of the options being discussed around the table is to import that data 4.6c into Z-tables in SAP S/4 HANA then develop some reports within Hana to analyze the data and make sense of it.

Some advice would greatly be appreciated in how you would tackle this situation if it were you.

I guess some things to keep in mind is how to really benefit or utilize the built in migration tools of SAP S/4 HANA. Can it be used coming from ECC 4.6C? What other possiblities are there?

Thank You.

Ali

Hi, you mean SAP R/3 4.6C ? That makes sense. But if you decided for a greeenfield, than you only get balance by year end and all open items e.g. open purchase order, sales orders. customer / vendor open items etc.

all the rest will remain in the old system which you need to freez for the periode of time required by your local auditors.

Taking over 15 years of data would be too much!

If you would like to do so than 4.6C Upgrade to ERP 6.0 EhP 7 and after that migrate to S/4HANA.

Hi Muhammad & Thomas,

SAP does not recomend to upgrade to ERP6.0 Ehp7 from 4.6C as it may not feasible for several reasons and green field is the best approach in that situation.

SAP has developed (and also enhancing) migration tools migration of old data.

With regards,

Mrinal

Hi, which tools you mean?

But I would not migrate all data of 4.6C into S/4HANA. Only the part I mentioned.

Technically, you could do System Conversion (lift & shift) or New Implementation (greenfield implementation). As you already said, you're looking more into a fresh install, please see the link I posted above.

Why starting fresh?

Although it's correct that you probably don't want to take all the history with you, this is a big chance! The chance to start fresh. With standard SAP S/4HANA processes, with clean and valid data,

However, please use the links below to find more information on both scenarios including recorded learning sessions.

Hello Muhammad,

Greeting of the day,

Very interesting situation.

Here are the options I can think of:-

1) For the production data reporting you can use embedded BW which comes with S/4 HANA, however you need to perform the initial migration

2) Use custom table and setup report for comparing current data with old data

3) Use both the system standalone and use an external mode for reporting in excel or some other tool. This tool is least expensive but will need most amount of work from user.

Hope this helps,

Regards
