Hi

I am looking for optimal  way;

to be able to change the Material type of a FERT material to a non-valued material. This material already has a standard cost, and so we want to make sure there are no issues. Please advise and provided the necessary steps

Hi Mosrafa,

As per standard procedure its not allowed to change the existing material type from costing to non-valuated, there are entries are already available with this existing material type, now you make the changes and the entries will become different, how can verify this to audit team.

It is advisable to create new material type & for existing materials flag for deletion.

thanks & regards

According to SAP note 621149 (MMAM: Change of material type despite costings), it is possible to change FERT material type to UNBW material type even though costing exists for the material.

Other than the pre-requisites such are no valuated stock exists, no open purchasing/sales/production orders; mandatorily you've to archive the sales views of the FERT material by setting the flag at Sales organization /distribution channel in the transaction MM06, later archive the same with archiving object MM_MATNR.

Dear Mustafa,

Following is the broad list of steps to change the material type;

1.  Delete any open physical inventory documents

2.  Goods Movement to remove stock

3.  Clear GR/IR line items

4.  Set deletion flags on open and closed purchase orders

5.  Set deletion flag or TECO any open service orders or production orders to close open reservations.

6.  Delete or archive the costing data for the material.

7.  Change material type from FERT to non-valuated using transaction MMAM.

Vikram.

Hi,

FERT material type of material and your expected material type, both have different views where as for your expected material do not need accounting views.

Yes, You can change material type of material in t.code MMAM but  both material types characteristics  and nature are different - You need consider this as mini project based on quantum of materials available and material type to be changed. You can go for new movement type creation and follow REVERSAL of stock integration/ reintegration process

Dear,

May i know the advantage that your business is getting with these changes? what all are the views that you maintained for your NON-STOCK material type?

You can extend the views to the materials, but you can not delimit the views once data is already maintained and transactions completed.

I request you can have new non-stock material with same description ,instead of changing the material type from FERT to NLAG.

Hope this may help you little bit.

Regards,

Pardhu
