System copy with different SID

Former Member

Dear support,

I want to perform system copy between 2 servers as below

source system: PRD production system with SID as <b>PRD</b>

target system: C11 Test system with SID as <b>C11</b>.

But i want this C11 test system after system copy with <u>SID QAS</u> and not C11.

Is it possible that i can make changes to controlfile as QAS , and what will happen to service SAPC11_00 and users C11adm , How i can change them to SAPQAS_00 and QASadm.

Best Regards,

AjitR

Hi,

U can change the C11 to QAS in the Controlfile at the time of system copy, this will only reflect the database instance but the central instace will take C11..

Please tell tell why should you want to change the Central Instance Sid too...I think changing the DB instance will do ur requirement

why not re-install ci as well? it only takes about 15-20 minutes....

two different SIDs might be an issue....

But should i touch my existing central instance , or just install another central instance and do system copy with changed controlfile as required SID.

I want to know by what SID request will get created because next step would be to involve it in STMS.

My ultimate objective is to make all new request should get created in future with QAS SID name and not C11.

Do as Andreas said,

install a new CI with proper SID name.

refresh your PRD system to this new system and voilà !

read the homogeneous system copy guide at http://service.sap.com/INSTGUIDES

Good luck.

I did this activity as below but sap not coming up

1)On C11 system i have installed new Central instance with name DEV

2) I have performed system copy from PRD server and changed controlfile and successfully created database with SID "DEV". Database is up and running

3) I have performed all required configuration changes and env settings , rename service SAPC11_00 to SAPDEV_00 it is also working fine.

4) Below are few connection tests after starting database and i have performed these tests after logging in as DEVADM users:

SQL> startup;

ORACLE instance started.

Total System Global Area 530774044 bytes

Fixed Size 75804 bytes

Variable Size 228413440 bytes

Database Buffers 301228032 bytes

Redo Buffers 1056768 bytes

Database mounted.

Database opened.

SQL> exit

Disconnected

5) But when i start SAPService manager for DEV instance it just hangs and doesnt give any error neither show any yellow or gray status.

I have UNCAR DBATOOLS.SAR also and put under kernel still problem is there
