Hi there,
I work for CP and perform Master Data maintenance in SAP TM. I think we just got version 9.2.
We are trying to plan an FWO/FU and get a too long list of transportation proposals for the business user to try and find the correct one.
We would like to limit the amount of proposals that are returned.
Is it possible to define an incompatibility so that the optimizer only considers certain transshipment locations.
Is there any way for me to achieve this with only master data access?
Unfortunately, I do not have access to configuration. I have access to conditions, planning settings, TCM and network master data.
Any ideas/help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Adrian
Hi all,
Would anyone be able to elaborate on the functionality of the following three Optimizer Settings fields? What do they affect? How are they applied? What is meant with connections?
Thank you,
Adrian

Hi Adrain,
I am not sure how the Transportation Network looks in the system. But you can use the below settings to manipulate the Transportation Proposals.
Also there are settings on planning costs settings by which you can prioritize the Delivery dates and Means of Transport.
You can also use the settings described in Transportation Proposal Preferences section in Optimizer Settings for manipulating Transportation Proposals. These settings are also available under Advanced Settings.
Below you can find the helps in SAP system for these fields. Hope this Explains.
Search Depth for Transshipment Locations
Specifies the maximum number of subsequent transshipment locations that the system determines starting from the source and destination location.
Use
You can use the search depth in transportation planning to define the size of the considered transportation network.
Example
You choose a search depth of two. The system determines transshipment locations that can be reached in two steps, starting from the source location or the destination location. Transshipment locations that can only be reached in three steps are not taken into consideration. The ensuing optimizer run will be based on this set of transshipment locations.
Search Depth for Connection Determination
Specifies the number of sequential connections that the system uses to link source and destination locations or the determined transshipment locations.
Use
Beginning with the start location or the determined transshipment locations, the system searches for connections that are relevant for this optimizer run. Relevant connections may include schedules, freight orders with a referenced schedule, or freight bookings starting from these locations.
Dependencies
The automatic connection determination has to be active for the parameter to take effect.
Example
You choose a search depth of two. The system determines schedules, freight orders with a referenced schedule, or bookings starting from the source location or one of the determined transshipment locations. The maximum number of subsequent connections equals the search depth two.
Automatic Connection Determination
Activates the automatic connection determination.
Use
Beginning with the start location or the determined transshipment locations, the system searches for connections that are relevant for this optimizer run. Relevant connections may include schedules or freight bookings starting from these locations.

Hi Nitesh,
thank you for the information.
It seems to me that the "Search Depth for Transshipment Locations" is doing the same as the "Max Number of Transshipment Locations". Or am I misunderstanding something?
I still don't understand the other two settings...
Her is what I have set up in our transportation network:
O - TSL1: MTr 0001
TSL1 - 😧 MTr IM
O - TSL2: MTr IM
TSL2 - 😧 MTr 0001
O: Origin
😧 Destination
TSL: Transshipment Location
MTr: Means of Transport
0001: Truck
IM: Intermodal
These would be two proposals I would get. However, I would like to exclude TSL2 in the proposal creation.
I am sorry, I should have provided this example earlier.
Thank you,
Adrian
Hi Adrian,
You can limit the number of proposals by:
1. Limiting the Number of Transhipment locations/connections to be searched under Planning Profile -> Optimizer settings -> Advance optimizer settings
2. In case you have some predefined Routes, use the default Route functionality and consider the same in Planning Profile settings -> optimizer settings.
Hope it helps.
Best Regards

Hi Nitesh,
Limiting the number of transshipment locations doesn't really solve my problem.
I am limiting the number to 2. Naturally, because of our transportation network we have set up, I also get proposals with transshipment locations that do not apply to this specific account / customer.
Either way, I will try to set up default routes when we get that functionality moved to production.
Thank you for the info and I'll let you know whether it worked or not.
Adrian
Hi Adrian,
Did you made the changes to all three fields and still got the same results?
1. Maximum No. of Transshipment Loc.:
2. Search Depth for Transshipment Locations:
3. Search Depth for Connections:
4. Automatic Connection Determination
Also you can restrict the number of Proposals by Specifying the number ins field Max. Number of Trans Proposals:
Try these settings and let us know, whether it worked or not.
Best Regards
Nitesh
Hi Nitesh,
Under "Optimizer Settings" I do not see "Advanced Optimizer Settings". It is possible that this has not yet been enabled via configuration for us. This is what I see:
Would you be able to post a screenshot of what you have? I would like to go to our IT team so they can think about adding the advanced settings.
Thank you,
Adrian
Hi Nitesh,
Thank you for the screenshot. I have never noticed the "Advanced Settings" button in the menu bar...
Could you please elaborate on the functionality of the following three fields? What do they affect? How are they applied? What is meant with connections?
Thank you,
Adrian
