Hi all,

I have some problem during the upgrade of my sap hana multitenant.

Indeed when I run "hdblcm" as "root", I get the following message:

Updating SAP HANA Database...

Update of SAP HANA components failed.

Update of SAP HANA Database failed

    Upgrade failed

      running in batch mode

        No password tag 'root_password' found

Mandatory parameter 'root_password' (RootPassword) is missing or invalid

and if I run as "sidadm" I have the following message:

Update of SAP HANA components failed.

Update of SAP HANA Database through SAP Host Agent Operation failed!

Update of SAP HANA Database on host 'ip-10-0-0-233' failed!

      Upgrade failed

        Error checking Upgrade

          Checking upgrade failed

            Cannot start local sapstartsrv

Waiting for sapstartsrv failed: timeout reached (120)

Waiting for sapstartsrv failed: timeout reached (120)

I tried with the "taking" on and off, and I have the same message.

do you have an idea?

Thanks.

Regards

Hi, Just for reference, this problem can be caused by an  incorrect DNS entry.

If your system is not on DNS check your /etc/hosts file,

chances are you have a typo or other incorrect entry or error in this file.
Fix the underlying networking issue and re-run, problem should go away.

(This goes for singleDB and MDC installations.)

Hi Arman,

I fixed my issue by looking at my servername.

Actually, i've worked at a virtual machine server, which was a copy of another, and it had have the same servername, but the instance name was different.

I've changed all instace name and try the installation again, and this was the good one!

Please start the hdblcm form the s/w dir ,

I mean to say the s/w which you have downloaded there you will find hdblcmgui.

So start it from there.

do not start it from /hana/shared/<sid>/hdblcm

Hello,

Can you try this one, as root :

Go to your decompressed software update directory .

In this you should be able to :

cd SAP_HANA_DATABASE

./hdbinst

Try to perform your update this way .

Best regards,

Steve.

With the sapinst I could not update my instance, but create a new one:

Enter Installation Path [/hana/shared]:

Enter SAP HANA System ID: HC1

SAP HANA System ID 'HC1' is already in use by a SAP HANA Database instance!

Enter SAP HANA System ID:

You have a problem with the parameter "system_user_password" with is the Database User (SYSTEM) password. You see this information in your sapstartsrv.log file.

So check the Database User  (SYSTEM)  password and retry.

Philippe.

Go to the root user's home and find the parameter "system_user_password".

Change this parameter in the configuration file.
