Hi all,
recently we implemented HIGH Availability system EXACTLY according to this guide: Installation of SAP Systems Based on SAP NetWeaver 7.1 to 7.5: Oracle.
we have implemented our H.A in 3 layer with 6 machines:
2 ASCS/ERS
2 ABAP
2 DB on ORACLE RAC
Test Scenario for ASCS/ERS:
The problem is, when we start some jobs like SGEN, and reboot our ASCS Machine which have an ERS instance running then all IP`s shift to the other machine and ASCS start working on second machine and we can login to system without problem but, when we check SM37 , SGEN Program is canceled!!!
here is some dark points, first of all if i run some DB jobs from ABAP which do not put ERS into the process and reboot an ABAP or ASCS everything goes fine, secondly some jobs like SGEN does not lock anything in Lock Table (SM12) even when its running.
So, is it normal to fail this kind of jobs? and if SGEN or job like this does not lock anything in lock table does it means that ERS do not handle it? and if yes, so which service handle it?
Please help me to find an answer, this is kind of urgent.
Regards,
Ali.
Hello Ali,
when we start some jobs like SGEN, and reboot our ASCS Machine
Is the ASCS machine the same where the SAP instance is running (where the SGEN jobs are running)?
Because if you reboot the entire machine, the SAP instance will also be stopped.
Notice that the HA solution is for the ASCS instance only.
Thus, it seems everything is working as designed / expected .

Isaías
