Advise on managing large Windows Content Server

We are running a FileSystemStorage content server.  Currently there is ~1.5 TB of data.  We are running low on available disk space.

We are looking at option to expand the available data storage space.  The Basis team is investigating extending the drive.

At the same time, want to understand options to spread the data over multiple drives or content servers.  What Notes etc should be reviewed?

Hi,

I believe the the better option is to extend the existing server capacity,

->If you want to store the existing document against the other content server.

Option 1: you can go for new content server and make the settings in DMS to link to new content server which will be used for all newly attached document, But in this case you need to keep both server active since the old document will be retrieved from the old server.

Option 2: If you like to move some document from one server to another: I believe this will be a bit complex and tedious process.

If you create new server and pass document to new server then there should be a link between these two server so that when the document is opened from ECC side then it will route to old server from there on we need to re route to new server in this the performance will also go down.

Option 3: Better option( Increase the capacity of existing server) which will reduce the monitoring cost and new server cost.

Hope this views may be helpful for you.

This is very helpful.  Thanks

Question - when using a FileSystemStorage content server, can the data store be setup to span 2 or more drives?  I don't believe so but wanted to ask.

Hi Richard,

These are some the ways that you can think off:

      1)    Review the rent ion policy to delete the legal expired records

     2)    Consider for migration to larger volume

     3)    Have a fresh drive with the CR pointing to it (Make the old drive and configuration                still available as document from it can be used for reading/accesing)

Please ask any queries.

Thanks,

Kolusu

Hi Nayeemur,

Assuming the interface between the SAP and Hard disk. Trying to seek clarification why new SAP CS is needed? Does new CR with configuration will not help? Only fresh documents needs to stored in the data store. As you rightly said the existing configuration and server should be still in parallel to new one to access new documents from new hard drive.

Thanks,

Kolusu

Hi Kosulu,

I suggested that because even if we have new content repository(CR) , This needs to be directed to some CS(Content server) which also needs to be active along with existing.

Check the Link of the file.

Check the access of the server.(Auth) and establish to end user.
